    • age requirements

      PK3-PK4
The birth date cut off for PK3 is three (3) years old on or before September 1, PK4 is four (4) years old on or before September 1. All students must be potty trained prior to the first day of school. Students attend full days for PK3 & PK4, 5 days a week. The PreK curriculum builds early learning and socialization skills in preparation for our Kindergarten program. Instruction in Spanish, music, art and physical education are offered. Technology is integrated into subject areas. Appropriate free play is provided. Nap/Quiet time is scheduled after lunch each day.

      Kindergarten
Students must be five (5) years old on or before September 1.  No exceptions. Our program is a five day, full day program. Students receive instruction in all basic academic areas. Our early reading program emphasizes phonics as a base for early reading success. Guided reading within the classroom and daily take-home leveled readers balance the program. Mathematic concepts are also highly emphasised at the age. Instruction in Spanish, art, music, and physical education is offered three times a week. Technology is naturally integrated into subject areas.

      First/Second Grades
Students move ahead with our primary curriculum which heavily emphasizes the basics of language arts and mathematics. The Iowa Test of Basic Skills is administered in September of each school year, with results being returned in early October. This allows our faculty to gauge students' strengths and improvement areas early and plan accordingly. Academic enrichment opportunities are offered throughout the year to hlep motivate and "stretch" learning in the classroom. Instruction in Spanish, music, art, and physical education is offered three times a week. Technology is integrated into subject areas. Cursive handwirting is included in the second grade language arts curriculum.

      Third-Eighth Grades
The academic programs in these grades reinforce the basic skills from prior years, introduce and build new skills, and emphasize critical thinking, logic, and application of knowledge. The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) and Cognitive Abilities Test (4th and 7th grades) are administered in September, and the results are received in early October. This allows our faculty to gauge academic growth, areas of strength and of improvement, and plan accordingly. Novel studies, individual projects, and group projects are included requiring students to utilize their knowledge effectively, helping to make learning meaningful. Instruction in Spanish, music, art and physical education is offered at least 3 times a week. Cursive handwriting is mastered in second grade and continually practiced in the upper grades. Academic enrichment opportunities are offered througout the year. Students with qualifying ITBS scores will be referred for the Duke University Talent Identification Program.

Catholic Identity: Equal to our emphasis on academics is our commitment to buidling a strong moral foundation within our students, based on the example of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Daily religion instruction is vital in support of this effort. Students attend Mass each week and have opportunities to receive sacraments throughout the year. Stewardship is fortifed through service and tithing opportunities. Catholic teachings and beliefs are integrated into all subject areas and the school atmosphere.
